Many people say to me, "Therapy is so expensive. I just can't afford it."
That's true, it does cost quite a bit. However, as with many things, it is all in how you choose to look at it.
Many people who say they cannot afford therapy think nothing of paying $50, $75, or $100 dollars for a nice meal at a restaurant, often several times per month. Or a couple may be willing to buy a new $1000 TV but balk at spending that much for 10 sessions of marriage therapy, which would also cost $1000.
Remember, you are paying for this person's expertise. The guy selling you the TV may be right out of high school, but a therapist has at least 6 - 10 years of college and graduate school before they can even begin to practice!
It is your choice. Is your mental and emotional health worth it? Is your relationship with your child worth it? Is your marriage worth it? I think so, if those parts of your life are important to you. If you are willing to forego eating out a few times per month or stop buying expensive items while you are undergoing therapy, I think you will see that the long term benefit is a much larger gain. The meal out or the new TV may make you feel better now, but that feeling wears off quickly. However, if you are able to find peace of mind or improve your relationships through therapy, that will pay off for years to come. After reading this, if you are still not convinced of the value, I will be willing to provide your first session for no cost. At the end of that session, if you are not confident that the cost will be worth it, then you have not lost anything and are free to head over to Joe's TV Land with my blessing!
Fees
My fee for each one hour therapy session is $100. I think you will find that this is competive with what other therapists in the area charge. I have a few slots for reduced fee or sliding scale payments. However, keep in mind that these slots are limited, and may not always be available.
Payment
Cash, check and all major credit/debit cards are accepted for payment.
Insurance and Confidentiality
Many clients want to use their insurance so I can bill their therapy. Obviously, this can save you some out of pocket money, but there are other concerns to keep in mind. If I file insurance claims, I must provide, at the minimum, a mental health diagnosis on you or your child. The health insurer may decide at any time that they want further information, and much of this is private, personal information. Your confidentiality may be compromised. So some of my clients decide that they would prefer to pay my full fee, so that I may retain full confidential access of their files.
I am a behavioral health provider for Aetna. I accept all Aetna insurance products, including the EAP. Further, some insurance providers such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield and United Health Care will allow you to be partially reimbursed by out of network services on your plan. Check with the mental or behavioral health department of your insurance plan to insure precertification and to discuss reimbursement rates.
Cancellation Policy
If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not notified us at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay in full the cost of the session.
